As this is Mother’s Day weekend, I decided I would apply a little motherly advice to my Substack article.
As soon as we were home from school, Mother’s question was always, “Do you have homework?” The rule was - homework first! There was to be no playing outside, no watching TV, no playtime at all; until homework was done.
Reading, Writing and Arithmetic
Obviously, if we didn’t do our math homework, we wouldn’t know how to balance our checkbooks or how to multiply fractions when doubling a recipe. If we didn’t study all those spelling words, practice using them in sentences, take our English and reading classes seriously, we would have great difficulty with writing, reading and comprehension.
Now that I am a grown woman, no longer in school, and even though my mother is no longer here to encourage me to do my homework, adulthood does not mean homework isn’t still necessary.
Faith in God is Freeing, Opinions bring Conversations, Knowledge brings Freedom.
As I study each morning for my talk show, I love to consider, and many times apply the words from our Founding Fathers to my on-air conversations.
“I consider knowledge to be the soul of a Republic, and as the weak and the wicked are generally in alliance, as much care should be taken to diminish the number of the former as of the latter. Education is the way to do this, and nothing should be left undone to afford all ranks of people the means of obtaining a proper degree of it at a cheap and easy rate.” John Jay, First Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
One of my first thoughts or questions regarding the conclusion of John Jay’s quote, is why, in America, if education is so important, do we make it so financially difficult for Americans to gain knowledge?
However, it was the first part of his comment that captured me; “I consider knowledge to be the soul of a Republic…” CSC Talk Radio is my daily talk show, it is conservative in nature and opinionated from my heart and head. Common Sense Conversations is the goal of the show; however, it takes a lot of studying on my part, as well as gleaning from the knowledge of others, to make my show more than just a clanging cymbal.
Since Donald Trump the candidate, now President for the second time, came down that “golden” escalator, there has been a flood of arguments, impeachments, lawfare attacks, and total disregard and disrespect, not just for the man, but for the position of President of the United States. All this political chaos has led us to many questions and concerns regarding the legality of the attacks, and how they parallel with our United States Constitution, the Rule of Law, Due Process, and the rights of American citizens.
The LEFT and their cohorts who despise all things Trump, on one hand, are counting on us to remain ignorant and complacent in matters of government and Constitution. On the other hand, they would absolutely love for us to react violently, giving them cause to bring yet another attack on Trump. Therefore, it is my “opinion” that it is the obligation of every American to have knowledge of our governance; our Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and to know who we are and what it means to be a Constitutional Republic.
“Unless the people, through unified action, rise and take charge of their government, they will find that their government has taken charge of them. Independence and Liberty will be gone, and the general public will find itself in a condition of servitude to an aggregation of organized and selfish interest.” Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president of the United States.
“A well-informed citizenry is the best defense against tyranny.” Thomas Jefferson
I question as to whether or not we are well informed, given the fact that the media continually lies to us. Their deception and arrogance does not excuse us from taking it upon ourselves to “do our homework” but actually gives us more reason to do so.
Forming opinions is easy, however it is our obligation as citizens to gain in knowledge.
It was through love that Mom insisted that I do my homework. We should love our country and our families and realize true freedom relies on knowledge of our rights. We should place, as a high priority, the importance of studying and remaining vigilant in matters of government, and in the Word of God most of all.
Let us tenderly and kindly cherish, therefore, the means of knowledge. Let us dare to read, think, speak, and write. John Adams
