When there is too much government, Liberty becomes nonexistent! There are a few questions we must ask ourselves. Is Liberty important in our lives? Is it worth taking a stand to protect? Do we each personally want to be dependent on government?
This is Part 2 of 5 of my synopses of the 27 Grievances listed in our Declaration of Independence. It is my hope, my mission in this series to bring us all to the realization that the grievances listed in 1776 are just as relevant in today’s America. Adding to the questions above, “Does Independence matter to Americans today?” There is a hard cold truth that We the People must know,
Freedom is never government-funded!
If the government owns the judicial system, and there is no longer a separation of powers, it is impossible for justice to be blind. There is no longer the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, and there can be no liberty and justice for all. When lady justice removes her blindfold, she becomes just another tool and asset of government, no longer serving We the People.
Grievance #8
“He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers.”
The Parliament of Great Britain refused to allow the colonists to elect their own judges. Instead, the king appointed all the judges throughout the colonies. Of course, these judges were dependent on the king for their salaries, and they were subject to him for their decisions. They in no way represented the people they supposedly served. The colonists were deprived of the benefits of trial by jury; justice was obstructed!
Grievance #9
“He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone for the tenure of their offices, and the amount of payment of their salaries.”
These officers were sympathetic to the king’s wants and influenced by his power. They were not driven by what was right or fair, nor were they interested in truth and justice.
America is now plagued with a two-tier justice system, which is no justice! We sit and watch how those in positions of power ignore the rule of law when it is about one of their own. We witness daily, how the government-owned media condemns the accused as if we, in America, are no longer “innocent until proven guilty.”
We are to have a separation of powers in this nation. Each branch is to be a check and balance system to keep our elected officials honest. That certainly hasn’t worked out well!
The Executive Branch is the office of the President of the United States. His job is to enforce the laws. He also nominates (appoints) federal judges and Supreme Court Justices. While their salary today does come from the taxpayers’ dollars, they have been appointed and their allegiance tends to lean toward their party, not to the Constitution. In the politics of today, ruling is about an agenda, and not about the rule of law.
The Legislative Branch (congress) is to make the laws, and they are the ones to interview and approve the appointed federal judges. This procedure has grown to be very ugly. Not always, but much of the time, these nominees are chosen by favors or by the agenda of whichever party is in “control.”
Supreme Court Justices are the final tier of our judicial system. Their purpose under the Constitution of the United States of America is to make sure lower court rulings coincide with the original intent of our Constitution.
Judges are not to be liberal or conservative; the decisions by these judges are to be Constitutionally driven. Judges are to remain neutral and judge solely in accordance with our Constitution. Personal opinions, emotions, or the agendas of some outside organizations, are not to cloud their decisions.
Grievance #10
“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.”
Bureaucracy is not a beautiful thing!
After the passage of the Stamp Act, the king established numerous pointless offices. Why? Collection duties; tax collectors! They were brought in by the king (his loyal men) and received high salaries and extensive “perks” at the expense of the colonists. I believe our tax dollars today pay the salaries and perks for all the IRS!
Today’s government has grown large, departmentally, with a great number of bureaucrats. Each of these departments employs a vast number of people, who are well paid and well benefited, at the expense of the taxpayers, We the People.
As if they are lawmakers, which they most certainly are not, the bureaucrats in these departments issue mandates and regulations. They demand permits and licenses for this or for that. They will fine citizens if they do not comply with their regulations. These departments are continuing to control citizens and their private property to this day… To Harass We the People and Eat Out Our Substance!
Most of these bureaucratic departments should be completely eliminated and the harassment of the people and the taking from the people should end!
When there is too much government, liberty becomes nonexistent.
The colonists had been subjected to great hardships and oppression from their king. It is my belief that We the People are in an even deeper state of government oppression today. We have no king to blame; we must take responsibility for our own apathetic ways which have allowed the elected to become more powerful than they should be.
We should not accept that politics is a career. Career politicians are not working for the people, they work to better their careers, and in turn We the People pay the price. We pay an even greater price as we forfeit our Liberty for government dependence.
How long will we allow this government structure to eat out our substance?
The 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence were representatives from all 13 colonies. It was a Unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America!
Theirs was defiance of the king and a declaration to the world that America is a Free and Independent nation!
Yes, there were loyal sympathizers, there were the Tories, there were even a few summer soldiers and sunshine patriots who lacked the heart and commitment to Liberty and Independence. It is said that only 2-3% of the colonists longed for a sovereign nation. They made their homes and livelihoods in this new land. The king hadn’t even set foot on the soil of America. Who was he to rule over a land, of which he was not king? Many colonists were born here and were never native to Britain.
We the People today have benefited from the sacrifices of those few long ago. What will our children’s future hold? What have we done to secure Liberty and Justice for All? Are we willingly leaving to them an oppressive government?
As long as there are but 2-3% of Americans who value Liberty, I have hope that We the People will honor our Founding Fathers and find a way to Bring America Home©.
“In Every Stage Of These Oppressions We Have Petitioned For Redress In The Most Humble Terms”
“There is a certain enthusiasm in Liberty that makes human nature rise above itself, in acts of bravery and heroism.”
Have you noticed more and more writers and talk show hosts are sharing excerpts from our beloved document, The Declaration of Independence? More are talking openly (in general) about the need for faith and prayer. CSC Talk Radio has long shared the need for faith and prayer in America.
Our Founding Fathers believed this too. They tried to negotiate every way possible with the unreasonable dictatorial king. The American colonists were separated or denied representation in all things governing, yet were hit with enormous and unreasonable tax burdens. When they complained, they were hit even harder.
“…In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people…”
Grievance #11
He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
The king granted his Generals dictatorial power. They used the military to subdue the cities.
Grievance #12
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
Remember in an earlier grievance we discussed that the king removed local governing and laws, after which he brought in his own governors and military. He filled the city streets with his police force, and the colonists had no control over what they did. These new “officers” could dictate as they wished.
How do these two grievances relate to us today? In my opinion, according to what I have heard and observed, today’s oligarchy would prefer to have federal police and do away with local, city and county police. In Nazi Germany they were referred to as the “brownshirts.” The “brownshirts” did the bidding of Adolf Hitler. In a speech by President Barack Obama, he stated, “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve gotta have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded as the United States military.” It sounds to me as if Obama wanted a police state, just like the king forced upon the colonists.
The rioting that happened in our nation during Barack Obama’s time in the White House was a defiance of local police. There have been great attacks and slander against local police forces; mostly unjustified. In the case of the Ferguson, Missouri rioting, the policeman’s life was ruined, and it was found out that Michael Brown was the aggressor. The police officer was defending his own life. Obama’s media and administration wanted all America to believe Michael Brown had his hands up and said, “Don’t shoot,” and then was shot. That was far from the truth, but the protestors and rioters chanted, “Hands up, don’t shoot,” until that’s all people believed.
No matter how long or how loud you continue to shout a lie, it will never be the truth. Whether it be, “Hands up don’t shoot,” “Russia-Russia-Russia disinformation,” “Nazis are fine people,” or “Trump is a dictator;” no matter how often the lies are chanted and no matter how they are spun, a lie will never be the truth! Yet the LEFT continue to use these lies even today in order to instill distrust in the hearts of people against their own local police and against President Trump.
As a free people it is our responsibility to know and to understand the grievances of our Founding Fathers. What was the king subjecting them to and why? It is also my hope in this series that all of us will realize, that as a free people, We have the right to petition.
We should realize that We too have been living under a tyrannical government, in the case that our government has grown to be a large state of bureaucracy; in which We the People do not have direct representation.
