This is Part 4 in a series of five articles which are devoted to the grievances listed in The Declaration of Independence.
Grievance #18
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury.
When we study these grievances and then read our own Bill of Rights, we can understand exactly why each Amendment was considered and approved.
Amendment V
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
Amendment VI
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.
It matters not if you like or dislike President Donald Trump, we should all expect that he be treated fairly under our laws! If you do not, you do not believe in Rule of Law or in Liberty but are simply a politically selfish individual, who is unwilling to look at both sides of any argument. He has not been treated fairly, and the democrats and their media relished in their unconstitutional trials and accusations against him. They impeached the man three times. Each impeachment is now known to have been based on completely false information and lies; but those who hate the man, choose to ignore the truth.
During the Biden-Harris administration, Rule of Law, speedy trials, and jury trials were denied to many Americans.
Grievance #19
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences.
During this period of time the government made up crimes and then took the colonists all the way across the Atlantic Ocean for trial.
Perhaps we are not (yet) being shipped “beyond seas,” but many of the offences against the J6ers were concocted ones. Several of them were arrested without any charge (guilty of presence). Later the charge given was trespassing. Trespassing in a public building, while being motioned in by a capital policeman! We all watched it happen! …and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation… (excerpt from Amendment 6 of the Bill of Rights) America, we must not forget these offenses against our Constitutional Republic, or move on until true justice is complete and satisfied. Those individuals who willingly executed and orchestrated these offenses against Americans, as well as President Trump, regardless of who they are or their positions, should be held accountable, in accordance to the law.
Do you see the parallels of tyranny then, and what happened to Americans during the Biden-Harris regime? In the political heat today, would you even dare to sign your name to such a document as the Declaration of Independence?
None of us can truly know how brave we might be under such duress. However, today in these United States of America many of our own have been deemed guilty first, that’s not the way our laws are supposed to work in America. We are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. In other words, the accusers must present facts and proof of their accusation.
Grievance #20.
“For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighboring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries to render it as once an example of fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies.”
This grievance is referring to the Quebec Act of 1774, which expanded the use of French civil law and expanded Canadian borders into what is now the United States Midwest.
Grievance #21
“For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments.”
This is a continuation of previous grievances. The king removed the Massachusetts charter to make his own judges and officers, who were completely independent of the people. As before, the governor was impowered to remove and appoint all inferior judges, the attorneys-general, provost-marshals, and justices of the peace, and to appoint sheriffs independent of the council. The sheriff chose jurors, making trial by jury virtually nonexistent. Local government in the colonies was now gone: Tyranny.
Grievance #22
“For suspending our own Legislature, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.”
Just as he had done in other states, the king suppressed the Legislature of New York. After dissolving Colonial Assemblies, the king assumed the right to make proclamations stand in place of statute laws. Lord Dunmore assumed this right in 1775 as did Sir James Wright and Lord William Campbell of South Carolina. (the king’s loyal men)
On a more recent note: If New York elects the communist-Islamic promoting democrat-socialist, Zohran Mamdani, as mayor, New York will fall! New Yorkers will be subject to Sharia law and women will lose most, if not all, their individuality and rights as American citizens, our Jewish Americans will be subject to horrific crimes and persecutions. TYRANNY!
It’s time for all Americans to admit and recognize the fact that we are not, and never will be, immune from tyranny. Regardless of which side of the political arena you choose, do you also choose tyranny? For if you are willing to watch others suffer and be treated unfairly and unjustly, you should know this will also be your fate. Tyranny holds no allegiance to anyone! What happens in New York, will not stay in New York!
Our Founding Fathers reached that pinnacle. Tyranny was no longer to be tolerated. The only option was to Declare to the World, so all would know, that they would not remain servants to a tyrannical king!
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --
Who doesn’t want Life and Liberty? Who doesn’t want the independence and freedom to choose their path in life?
Unanimously, the colonies established a Free and Independent America. Still today our legitimate grievances are many. Do we truly hold to those truths? Like our Founding Fathers are we so brave as to stand for Liberty and Freedom?
After the long fought battle for freedom, our Founding Fathers composed a Constitution and established a Constitutional Republic. The preamble should be a call to us today…
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
These Founding Fathers had a vision, not just for their present lives, but for the lives of all Americans; as they stated, “our Posterity.” We need to show such love and commitment today… for our own posterity. America’s future generations deserve our love and commitment.
